My research focuses on gender diversity practices in esports communities across the UK and Portugal, with the aim to uncover how esports communities navigate gender diversity and DEI initiatives. One of the goals of the work is to develop best practices for grassroots esports communities.
I have presented preliminary findings from my PhD at the Seminar ‘Understanding local esports cultures and ecosystems’. This presentation focused on data collected from the Portuguese esports community.
I am currently in the 2nd year of the PhD programme and continuing to collect data from UK communities in order to compare and contrast the findings.
